Starbucks Reserve Coffee Cards

D.R. Congo Lake Kivu, Peru Chonti, Kenya Karatina

Starbucks Reserve artwork finds inspiration in the distinctive tasting notes and processing methods of these small-batch coffees, as well as the vibrant culture, regional art, and textiles of the communities that produce it.

EASTERN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO LAKE KIVU

The artwork showcases the rippling, cool blue waters of Lake Kivu. Unique regional fishing boats are highlighted in bronze foil among silhouettes of local dwellings, textile patterns, and coffee beans. The geometric and irregular hand lettering incorporates patterns used in traditional textiles from the region.

Perú Chonti

Perú Chonti is a beautiful, floral coffee that comes from two farms in the Cajamarca region of Perú. The Perú Chonti icon design was inspired by the graceful arches of the elaborate gold helmets, nose rings, and necklaces worn by leaders of the ancient Moche civilization indigenous to that region. The teal and turquoise color scheme for the icon design was also derived from this intricate gold jewelry, which was often heavily inlaid with turquoise and other precious stones. The delicate, shimmering gold foil references the metal-working techniques, like gilding and early forms of soldering, that the Moche are particularly noted for.
